A Call To Live Holy
1 Peter 1:13-16 is a foundational New Testament passage that calls believers to anchor their hope in the return of Christ and to reflect God's character through a pure, set-apart lifestyle.
The passage hinges on two primary commands that connect a believer's future hope to their present behavior:
Fix Your Hope (Verse 13): Believers are instructed to mentally and spiritually prepare for action, stay sober-minded, and place all their hope on the grace they will receive when Jesus Christ returns.
Be Holy (Verses 14-16): Christians are called to leave behind the desires of their former, ignorant lives. Because God, who saved them, is perfectly holy, they must embody that same holiness in all aspects of their daily conduct, fulfilling the Old Testament mandate: "Be holy, because I am holy"
